The relationship between the fetus and the mother's immune system is a dynamic and evolving process. This interaction shows a considerable degree of plasticity, allowing it to adapt to the continual changes experienced by the fetus during pregnancy. The immune system in pregnant women is meticulously regulated to protect against infections and facilitate embryo acceptance. Inflammatory processes during pregnancy are vital for the growth, remodeling, and differentiation of decidual tissue. Immunogenetic disorders can lead to reproductive difficulties, such as implantation failure, recurrent miscarriage, preterm labor, fetal growth restriction, and preeclampsia. Recent research has highlighted the immune system's role during pregnancy, particularly in the early stages, emphasizing its importance in safeguarding various physiological processes essential for early development, as well as supporting implantation, placentation, and fetal growth. A breakdown in tolerance to paternal antigens is considered a potential cause of miscarriage and other clinical complications.
